About Rose Breasted Cockatoo

The Rose Breasted Cockatoos are striking birds. The Rose Breasted Cockatoo is native to Australia where it is known as the "Galah". These birds are extremely playful and intelligent, and need constant stimulation with toys to play with, and objects to chew, to keep them from getting bored.

Description

The Rose Breasted Cockatoos have soft and down-like feathers. Generally, Rose-breasted Cockatoos are pink, with shades varying from carnation pink to fuchsia pink. The nape, forehead, lores and crown are generally a white-pink shade, while the legs, upper abdomen, neck and chest are deep, dark pink. Rose Breasted Cockatoos have pearl gray wings, tails and backs.

The secondary flight coverts, the upper tail coverts, the rump, the abdomen, and the vent are all whitish gray. The feet are dark gray and the beak is horn colored. The irises of Rose Breasted Cockatoos are dark except in females, and the periopthalmic ring is rose-colored or gray.

  • The Rose Breasted cockatoo want to be cuddled on their terms, and can change their minds quickly.

  • Many often have a wide independent streak that can be off-putting.

Temperament

The Rose Breasted Cockatoo is relatively quiet and has an engaging, sprightly personality and a good ability to mimic human speech. However, an untrained Rose Breasted Cockatoo is an utter disaster in the house. It can get very noisy and rob you of sanity. The birds speak remarkably well for Cockatoos and often perform endearing, clown-like antics, adding to their appeal.

Rose Breasted Cockatoo As A Pet

The Rose Breasted Cockatoo can make an excellent pet, with even wild caught young birds capable of becoming affectionate and friendly birds. They will however often become a little unpredictable when mature, and should never be allowed to spend time on a shoulder. They are extremely playful and intelligent birds, which, like most cockatoos, need constant stimulation with toys to play with, and objects to chew, to keep them from getting bored.

They are not generally noisy, apart from early morning and evening, although some are the exception to the rule. Both sexes can become good talkers, possibly with the males being somewhat better.
