Lovebirds

Lovebirds are meant to be, well you know what, loved and loved hard. In fact, it is very difficult to resist falling in love with them. This African parrot species is slowly becoming one of the most favorite pets in households today. It reached the United States in the late twentieth century. Since these birds love to coo and peck its loved one, it is generally believed a pair of Lovebirds is the best thing in a house. However, as a parrot expert, I must tell you it is not entirely true. If you are dedicated and really love this bird and are ready to spend time with your bird, one Lovebird is all that you need to own to enjoy your life.

There are many varieties of Lovebirds, the most common being the Peachfaced Lovebird. A Lovebird is a source of pure joy and laughter. Whenever you are in a dark mood, watch your Lovebird's antics and you can see blues fading away into the distance! That's my guarantee to you. Lovebirds are playful by nature and it loves to follow you around on your shoulder. It plays hide-and-seek with you in your hair! Isn't that the cutest thing you have ever heard?

A Lovebird is intelligent and affectionate. It can be trained to give kisses and learn other tricks. It has the ability to learn to talk and whistle. Its speech is clear and distinct. It responds eagerly to your voice and expects a loving gesture as a reward. Don't break its heart. Give it whenever it asks for it. And do not underestimate its abilities by its size. It is small in size but it is a big parrot by temperament.

Lovebirds have two advantages. One, they are intelligent, and the other, they are fairly easy to train. A Lovebird training can teach your bird to talk, perform tricks, and perch on your hand, shoulder or head. Lovebirds are loving and social creatures, so make sure of training Lovebirds well.

To train a Lovebird you will need patience and time.The first step in training Lovebirds is to get the bird used to your hand. You must be very careful while you are doing this. The Lovebird may get afraid when it sees your hand in its cage. It may bite you too. Don't lose your calm and for God's sake, don't yell at the cute bundle of feathers! Train a Lovebird well and your bird will perch on your finger in no time. Training Lovebirds also involves not leaving the bird lonely in its cage.

Peachface Lovebirds

Peachface Lovebirds are the most popular variety of Lovebirds. This parrot species also comes in colors like Dutch-Blue, Cinnamon, Lutino and Pied. In fact, if you are looking for Lovebirds for the first time in your life, you will mostly find Peach faced love birds in most aviaries and pet stores. This is because it is very easy to breed these birds in captivity.

The Peachface Lovebirds are very intelligent and they are very active by nature. They love to sit on your shoulder when you are foing through the morning newspaper. Beware, however, of one thing! These cute birds love to play and they will easily shred your newspaper if given a chance!

Peach faced love birds don't want anything in the world if they can lay their hands...err...claws on toys. But don't go about buying every toy you come across in the pet stores. Remember, they are nature's miniscule replica - they like things simple yet beautiful. Wooden spools and such simple stuff can keep them occupied for days on end.
The advantage of keeping Peachface Lovebirds in your house is they don't take up much space. Their size and the amount of exercise they need make small cages ideal for them. Another advantage of the Peachface Lovebirds or lutino Lovebirds is the fact they have very sweet voices and it is pleasant to hear them call out to you or coo to each other. This makes them suitable for apartment living.

Be prepared not to get hurt when you see your Peach faced love bird bonding more closely to another Lovebird than to you. This may happen even when the second Lovebird is new in the house. Pairs often tend to disobey you when they find each other's company. Peachface Lovebirds are curious and can easily learn to undo the latch of the cages.

Never underestimate their size. Their personalities are as colorful and interesting as their larger cousins. The Peach faced love birds can easily manipulate situations. All in all, these birds are simply delightful. Own one today to bring about a drastic change in your life!

African Lovebirds

As is evident from the name, African Lovebirds are originally from Madagascar and Africa. Nine different species of African love birds are known to exist. These parrots are small but simply gorgeous. They caught man's attention in the middle of the nineteenth century and have since been captivated by man in both his imagination and reality.

The African Lovebirds are stout bundle of mind-blowing colors with little rounded tails. These Lovebirds are highly social in nature and are characteristically noisy. Noise symbolizes contentment. African love birds are intelligent and they are better off alone or in pairs. These birds do not usually live in colonies because they tend to fight with each other if they do not get enough space for themselves.

Among the African Lovebirds, the Peachfaced Lovebirds seem to be the most popular. They also tend to be more noisy and aggressive than the other eight species that are known as the African love birds. As an owner of African Lovebirds for the last twenty years, I am certain of one thing. You better be very careful about their cages.

These cute little birds are excellent at flying away from the cage. And, believe me, it is mighty tough to get them back into their cages.

Pet Lovebirds provide a lot of entertainment and they bond with humans just as they would with their flock.
The pet Lovebird can be trained to talk and perform amazing tricks. However, it is not easy to train pet Lovebirds. They are intelligent, graceful and often moody birds. Having a pet Lovebird is fun but looking after it the right way and providing the right things at the right time needs patience, skill and a lot of study.
