About Nanday Conure

The Nanday Conure is a hardy bird that needs and enjoys large amounts of social stimulation. This bird loves to be bathed, and when acquired at a young age can be taught tricks and to speak. Nanday Conures quickly get used to a new environment and they are very sociable with other species.

Description

The Nanday Conure has a greenish plumage overall, with the lower parts of its body displaying a more yellowish green color. The Nanday Conure has a black head, and the upper part of the breast and throat are rich blue.

Origin of Nanday Conure

The Nanday Conure's natural range is from the provinces of Formosa, Chaco, and Santa Fe in Argentina, to Mato Grosso in Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

Special Characteristics

Highly intelligent, social creatures, the other features of Nanday Conures are:

• They love exercise and playtime, and also love cuddling with their keepers!


• They are a little noisy and can screech at loud volumes, but are quieter and more laid-back than most Conures.


• They are escape artists and closely bonding friends, and are thought to be the most intelligent of the Conures!


• They are renowned for their gentle, affectionate natures.

Temperament

The Nanday Conure is known to be noisy in the early mornings and afternoon, as well as any time they are startled; however, they are very adaptable and outgoing, and get used to their owners and keepers quickly. They will bond with one person or territory, and can be quite destructive if made unhappy due to inadequate socialization and stimulation. It should be noted that Conures like the Nanday often sleep on their backs. This could be alarming for a beginner who is not expecting it!

Nanday Conure As A Pet

In general, the Nanday Conure is easy to keep and makes an excellent pet for both the experienced bird owner and the beginner. A Nanday Conure is otherwise very adaptable and outgoing. It gets used to its owners quickly. An untrained Nanday Conure is difficult to control. It may become embarrassing in front of guests.
