About Green Cheek Conure
The Green Cheek Conures usually make excellent pets. Along with being playful Green Cheek Conures are very affectionate. They can easily enjoy hours of being petted or enjoy long sessions of snuggling. Most owners say that their Green Cheek Conures love to climb through their hair or find pockets to cuddle in.
Starting at the head, the Green Cheek Conure has a black beak, dark brown eyes and wide white eye-rings. The top of the head is dark gray or blackish. The ear coverts are grayish, and the "cheeks" are, of course, green. Some Green Cheek Conures also have varying amounts of green or greenish-blue above the eyes. Other Green Cheek Conures have a little bit of blue on the back of the head. The chest is scalloped gray. The body is dark green. The flight feathers are cobalt blue, and many Green Cheek Conures also have blue under their tail. The tail itself is a dark maroon color. Some Green Cheek Conures have a full maroon belly; others have a little maroon on the belly; and still others have no maroon on the belly at all. The feet are pinkish, with dark nails.
Origin of the Green Cheek Conure
The Green Cheek Conures are found in west-central and southern Mato Grosso, Brazil, through northern and eastern Bolivia to northwestern Argentina. Its habitat is forests and woodland, where it forms big flocks at treetop level.
Highly intelligent, social creatures, the other features of Green Cheek Conures are:
- They are playful, affectionate and intelligent, known as having a "big personality in a small body".
- They can learn to talk, although they have a limited vocabulary.
- They can perform tricks .
- They like to be held (although some like it more than others) and can learn tricks such as lying on their backs and "kissing".
- Along with other Pyrrhura Conures, they are only moderately loud, therefore making acceptable pets for apartment dwellers.
- They can be prone to biting, particularly when young, but an owner can cure this behavior with patience and time.
A Green Cheek Conure can be trained to go to the bathroom in special areas when it is out of the cage. Owing to its quiet nature, the Green Cheek Conure is the perfect choice as an apartment bird. Some may be noisier than the rest but it is the quietest bird in the entire parrot family.
Green Cheek Conure As A Pet
A Green Cheek Conure is intelligent and playful. It makes a wonderful pet. A green cheek Conure is very sweet natured and can be easily trained to talk. It has such a tiny voice that usually only the owner can understand. A Green Cheek Conure does not really whistle. It generally repeats a few words and common household noises.
